Lexington, KY—Gospel Trip, Report 8

February 8, 2020

We started the day with morning coordination with the team, singing and enjoying the Word of God!

Today was the last day we were distributing Bibles on the campus of the University of Kentucky (UK). Some of us went around to talk to students around campus and hand out tracts; some had appointments with contacts. Many of the local saints also came to see us and support us at the table. Later, we had a Bible study and fellowship on John 6 on how Jesus is the bread of life to feed and nourish the hungry. After our time on campus, we had dinner and a blending time in the local saints’ homes. Two students from the Bible study were also able to join us for dinner in the homes and enjoyed blending with the saints in Lexington. May the Lord continue to connect the students with the saints and strengthen the saints in caring and following up with the students!

Statistics:

  • Bibles distributed: 12
  • 5 of our contacts attended the Bible study

Prayer Burdens:

  • Pray for the Lord’s grace in connecting the students with the local saints in Lexington and that He will strengthen the saints in Lexington in caring for the students that contacted these past two weeks.
  • Pray for the Lord’s blessing on strengthening and supplying the Bible studies in UK.

February 5

In the morning the local saints and trainees met for coordination. During this time, we discussed new goals for the tabling at West Virginia University, where we ended up exceeding our goal of handing out bibles. We noticed that there is more of a hunger among the students here compared to the campuses in Pittsburgh. Within 15 minutes after setting up the table, 36 Bibles had already been passed out to the students. The students are more responsive, open to receive the Lord, and willing to sign up for more information on the Bible study we’ll have tomorrow.

After the meeting to gather statistics and dinner, we attended the prayer meeting at a saint’s home, which is currently being remodeled to create more room for the saints to meet. We were able to blend and pray with more of the local saints during this time, even meeting the only student of the club. After prayers, some of the local saints shared their testimonies, which was watering and sweet.

February 4

Tuesday morning consisted of an early appointment, coordination, and traveling to campus for our final follow-up appointments with students from Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh. Trainees that did not have appointments attended the University of Pittsburgh lunch and Bible study. There, we read a chapter in the book of Hebrews with students and local saints. After appointments, we regrouped to pack up the vehicles to head to Morgantown, West Virginia. The sisters settled and rested at their hospitality and the brothers visted West Virginia University before dinner. There, we had a sweet time of introductions and blending with the families and and local saints.

Statistics:

  • Tracts: 627
  • Bibles/Rhema sets: 93
  • Number of people contacted: 77
  • Number of people who prayed to receive the Lord: 3

Prayer Burdens:

  • Pray for the Lord to release the students to attend the bible study for Thursday night Bible study and that the weather will be favorable.
  • Continual prayers for the health of the team.
  • Pray that the 93 students who received Bibles would open to read the word and gain life
  • Pray for more students to have the vision and the burden to rise up and assist the club
  • Pray that the meeting hall expansion will allow more saints to grow and spread

Cincinnati, OH—Gospel Trip, Report 3

February 7, 2020

The past few days have been full of opportunities to enter into the homes of the saints and new ones. Many of the students that we are in contact with have strong backgrounds in Christianity. However, the saints here are exercised just to fellowship with these ones in a normal way. “L” is one such student. His family has lived on their farm in a rural community outside Cincinnati for over 200 years! L and his family are satisfied in Christianity, yet they also love the saints! They hosted the college meeting this past weekend at their farm and the time was filled with mutuality and enjoyment. Please pray we may join the saints here in contacting such typical Americans in a normal and open way.

Wednesday, February 5th

In the morning coordination we realized that we only have three more days on campus. We started by singing, then pray-reading verses in Colossians, and lastly praying for the health of the trainees and the saints and for each specific appointment today. The brothers prepared the outline and message for the Bible study in the evening based on John 7. There was no tabling today, so groups went out to put flyers up around campus and others had appointments with students. In the Bible study there were six students, with one coming for the first time. We sang a couple hymns before getting into the Word. A few students who were studying nearby came in to bring us more chairs and told us that they enjoyed our singing. We enjoyed that the Lord is our living water and that He wants us to come to Him and drink freely!

A highlight from today was a second appointment with student C. We shared our testimonies of how the Lord became real to us and called us to go to the Training. She shared her story of turning from just fearing the Lord to loving and seeking Him. Pray that she would remain open and that the Lord would get connected to some local saints before we leave.

**Thursday, February 6th **

We had our coordination today before our last day of tabling on campus. We first began with some singing and praising the Lord for taking care of the health of the saints. A brother joined us and gave us a encouraging testimony of how he was gained and came into the church life through the contact of the saints during a gospel trip eight years ago. Then we prayed for the upcoming appointments, especially for their further connection with the local saints.

In one of the appointments today, the sisters were meeting up with student B for the third time. Initially, student B indicated that she was not seeking although she grew up in a Christian family. After one of the sisters shared her testimony of how God became real to her, student B was very thankful and felt like that was something she had never heard before in Christianity. She received a New Testament and we hope to connect her to a home meeting before we leave.

This evening we had our last seminar on the topic, “What’s the point?”. Thank you for all the prayers! We felt like the Lord really brought in some seeking ones. Thirteen students came; six of them came for the first time. A brother, who is an alumni of the university, explained that we are vessels made to contain God. We received a positive response from the students, with some expressing interest in joining future Wednesday Bible studies.

Statistics:

  • Flyers: 233
  • Bibles: 10
  • Contacted: 12
  • Prayed/Called: 2
  • Basic Elements of the Christian Life: 14
  • Regular appointments: 3

Tuesday, February 4

We started the day with morning coordination with the team. Our burden was to pray specific prayers for the contacts we were meeting with and to pray for them to be connected with the local saints. Although our new location on campus had less traffic, there were still some students who stopped by our table. Some of us also went to meet with students for appointments and walked around campus to talk to students. After our time on campus, we had dinner and a blending time in the local saints’ homes.

Wednesday, February 5

We had some visiting saints to join us for the day. We started the day singing hymns, pray-reading, and enjoying our Spirit. We enjoyed 2 Cor. 6:1 and footnotes:

They worked together with God by a life (not by any gift) that was all-sufficient and all-mature, able to fit all situations, that is, able to endure any kind of treatment, to accept any kind of environment, to work in any kind of condition, and to take any kind of opportunity, for the carrying out of their ministry. (2 Cor. 6:1, note 1)

We split up our team into two sub-teams to go onto the campuses of Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) and the University of Kentucky (UK).

In EKU, we set up a table to give out Bibles and many students were very open to us. One highlight was when one student stopped to ask if she could grab more Bibles for her friends who were in class. We distributed a substantial amount of Bibles in a short period of time. In UK, we presented the riches of the Recovery Version of the Bible to the students who stopped by. It was wonderful to see when students were impressed with the contents of the study Bible. In addition, we had appointments with two students. One of the students prayed to receive the Lord! We also had a Bible study where a Korean couple and a student joined us. We had a wonderful time of fellowship reading through John 4, which shows us that Jesus is the Christ, who wants to be our Husband and give us living water to satisfy us!

Praise the Lord for these open students! There are many seeking and open ones on the campuses of UK and EKU. The Korean couple and their two children came to have dinner with us and were able to meet and spend time with saints. Another student also came and joined us for dinner. We pray that the Lord would continue to connect the students to the saints in Lexington and their open homes.

Statistics:

  • Bibles distributed: 64
  • Basic Elements of the Christian Life distributed: ~43
  • Appointments: 5
  • Saved: 4

Prayer Burdens:

  • Pray for the Lord’s grace in connecting the students with the local saints in Lexington and continue to strengthen and bless them.
  • Pray for the Lord to release the students to attend the Bible studies this week.
  • Pray that the Lord will continue to cover and strengthen the health of all the trainees, full-time serving ones, and the local saints.
